One of the most stylish trends for A/W 2011 is the 'ladylike' look with designers focussing more on the woman wearing the clothes than on extravagant garments.
Prada and Louis Vuitton made clothes to conservatively flatter woman of all ages. Though this trend may sound a little dull, there are lots of great ways to make a modest look youthful and still a little bit sexy. The looks on the catwalks were slightly old fashioned with 50s full skirts and kitten heels but the trick is to bring the look bang up to date (see the flattering corsetry at LV) and wear with modern finishes.
The great thing about this trend is how good it looks on real bodies, Prada used the curvier model Doutzen Kroes to show some of their form fitting dresses and she looked beautiful! Take inspiration from Mad Men as well as ladies like Brigitte Bardot to get the look just right.
The look doesn't necessarily have to be 50s inspired though, the main idea of the trend is sexy subtlety- focussing on looks that suit our shape and make the most of this!
Here are some possible outfits to adopt this trend without risking looking frumpy...
